Recently, the Government of India launched a FREE Rs.5 lakh Senior Citizens Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance. How do you apply online for AB PM-JAY?
I have already written a detailed post about the features and benefits of Senior Citizens Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance. You can refer to the same at “All About Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana“. However, for the benefit of the readers of this post, I am reposting the content here once again.
# All senior citizens 70 years and above are eligible for this scheme.
# There is no income restriction under this scheme. Hence, irrespective of your income if you are a senior citizen, then you can opt for this.
# The eligible senior citizens would be issued a new distinct card under AB PM-JAY
# The senior citizens aged 70 years and above belonging to families already covered under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme (Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY)) will get an additional top-up cover up to Rs.5 lakh per year for themselves (which they do not have to share with the other members of the family who are below the age of 70 years).
# All other senior citizens of the age 70 years and above will get a cover up to Rs.5 lakh per year on a family basis.
# Senior citizens of the age 70 years and above who are already availing benefits of other public health insurance schemes such as Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), Ayushman Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) may either choose their existing scheme or opt for AB PMJAY.
# Even the senior citizens of 70 years and above who are under private health insurance policies or Employees’ State Insurance scheme will be eligible to avail benefits under AB PM-JAY.
In this post, I am sharing with you the process of how to apply online for Senior Citizens Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance.
Senior Citizens Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance – How to apply?
The steps are very simple.
Step 1 – Visit the official website of the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY Scheme.
Step 2 – Click on the tab called “Am I Eligible?”. This will redirect to the new webpage https://beneficiary.nha.gov.in/.
Step 3 – Here, you just can check whether you are there or not by providing your details like phone number, Aadhaar number, and all. Also, if your name is showing there, then you can use this website or app to checking status, link your Aadhaar, add a member, or redo your e-KYC.
Step 4 – If your name is not reflected here, then you have no option but to visit an empanelled hospital or Ayushman Mitra and provide your identification documents, such as your Aadhaar card. You can also register online through the official portal or Common Service Centres (CSCs).Â
Step 5 – Once it is done, then you can download the PM-JAY from their app (Ayushman Application). You can refer to this Video where it is explained in detail.
Do remember that there is a misguidance running on few websites and YouTube channels that you have to visit pmjay.gov.in and click on the “ABHA” registration link. However, do remember that ABHA is not for PM-JAY registration. It is for PM-JAY registration. Instead, it is a unique 14-digit ID number for accessing medical records digitally. Refer to this Tweet from the National Health Authority.
Hence, as of now the only way to register for Senior Citizens Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance is through visiting an empanelled hospital or Ayushman Mitra.
Dear Basu sir,
There were some states like West Bengal who didn’t provide access to the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. Can this scheme apply to residents of West Bengal ?
Dear Snehashis,
As far as I know, it applies to pan India but again I strictly warning you that don’t rely on this scheme alone. If you can afford your own health insurance then buying your own is far better and creating health emergency is also most important part.
