How to view EPF Passbook and withdraw EPF using Umang App?

Recently Government of India launched UMANG App. This includes all Government related services. How to view EPF Passbook or withdraw EPF using Umang App?

Earlier EPFO started the facility of online EPF withdrawal option for all subscribers. I have already written the post on this (Ref-How to withdraw EPF and EPS online?). Also, now you can transfer your EPF accounts using the online facility of EPF (Ref-How to transfer EPF online using EPF Unified portal?).

Going forward to one step further, EPFO services now included in Government of India’s App UMANG. Using Umang App, you can view, download passbook or apply for EPF withdrawal.

What is Umang Mobile App?

UMANG, is a Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance. It is developed by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and National e-Governance Division (NeGD). It is an evolving platform designed for citizens of India to offer them access to the pan India e-Gov services from the Central, State, Local Bodies, and Agencies of government on app, web, SMS, and IVR channels.

It will integrate almost 200 government services by 2019 across departments and states, allowing people to work seamlessly with the government. UMANG will soon be providing integration with various other services such as PayGov.

It is claimed that UMANG will revolutionize the way how an Indian citizen avails government services today, claims the Government. UMANG will enable citizens to download a single mobile app instead of multiple apps for each department and make it easy for them to discover government services.

It will suggest you link Aadhaar. However, it is not mandatory link Aadhaar with Umang App. However, it will be beneficial for you to link Aadhaar with Umang App.

It is available in 13 languages such as English, Hindi, Assamese, Gujarati, Bengali, Kannada, Odia,Punjabi, Malyalam, Marathi, Tamil,Telegu,Urdu.

Advantages of using Umang App

# All government services are available for citizens on a unified platform for easy access.

# You just need to install a single app rather than downloading multiple app for multiple services.

# It will ease your service related issues as you can anytime and anywhere avail these services through your mobile phones, desktops, and laptops without any need for visiting the department office and standing in queues.

Umang app on Mobile is available for Android, Windows and iOS platform. Download the Umang app from your respective app store such as Google Play Store for Android users. It requires 4.4 and up It’s size is 10 MB.

The process to register is simple and I explained it as below.

Features of Umang App – EPF

Using Uman App, you can perform the below activities related to EPF services.

# Employee Centric Services

Here you can view the passbook, Raise the claim and track the claim.

View Passbook

An employee can view the transactions (deposits and withdrawals) in the form of passbook for current and previous employers.

Raise the claim

Basically, you can perform the below said three sets of actions here.

Form 10C (Pension Withdrawals Benefits)-An employee can withdraw the contributions made towards Employees’ Pension Scheme, on leaving the service before becoming eligible for members pension (EPS).

Form 19 (EPF Final Settlement)-An employee can withdraw the contributions made towards the EPF, on leaving service, superannuation, termination or at the time of retirement.

Form 31 (EPF Partial Withdrawal)-An employee can withdraw the contributions made towards EPF, before leaving of service for various purposes, therefore known as “Advance Form”.

Track Claim

An empl0yee can track the claims, submitted through UMANG, by using their UAN number as authentication.

# General Services

Here you can search establishment, search the nearest EPFO or you can know your claim status.

# Employer Services

This service is related to employers. Here for this post, it is not relevant. Hence, I will not discuss this feature.

Who can withdraw EPF using Umang App?

There are certain conditions to it and they are as below.

# You must link Aadhaar to UMANG App.

# You must have an active UAN number.

# You must have linked Aadhaar to UAN number (Refer the procedure-How to link Aadhaar to EPF Online without login? and How to link Aadhaar to EPF using online and offline?).

Step 4-Once you click on “Raise Claim”, then it will ask your UAN number. You have to enter the number and then OTP will be sent to your registered mobile (UAN related). You have to enter OTP and log in.

Step 5-Once you enter OTP, then you have to choose the type of online EPF withdrawal claim and submit the same through UMANG App. Your employer is not at all involved in this process.

Step 6-Once you submit the withdrawal application, then you will get the claim reference number. This number will be helpful for your future tracking.

Do not that you must be transferred all the funds from your old EPF accounts to current EPF accounts. Then only you can submit the withdrawal application.

How to view EPF Passbook using Umang App?

Using the Uman App, you can view your passbook also. However, I found that there is no download option available in Umang App.

Beware of unofficial EPF Apps

There are some unofficial EPF Apps also which facilitate you to check EPF Balance, download passbook or check status. However, such Apps are not authorized by EPFO. Hence, you must know that which App is officially approved by EPFO or certified by EPFO.

When you look into Google Play store, then you will find many such apps available with different names and features. They are very popular also. However, I personally suggest use only those Apps which are recognized by EPFO.

The reason for caution is that, while using such unofficial EPF Apps, you unknowingly share your personal details which are vital. Also, we don’t know to what extent these Apps protect our personal data. Hence, it is always dangerous to share your personal data with such unofficial Apps.
