How to check EPF Balance instantly? Many of us need this information instantly as it may be helpful in understanding the quantum of the accumulated corpus.

Earlier I have written posts whenever the features launched separately. However, I thought to segregate the same and write it in a single post.

Let me explain to you one by one. Currently, EPFO offers 4 ways to check EPF Balance instantly. These are the easiest way and can be used even if you don’t have internet access (by sending SMS).

# Check EPF Balance instantly by sending an SMS

The first and easiest way to do it is by sending an SMS from your registered mobile number. You can get details of your latest contribution and the EPF balance by sending an SMS to 7738299899. You need to send this message: EPFOHO UAN ENG.

The last three letters of the message represent the language you prefer to receive an SMS.  If you wish to receive the message in Marathi, then type in EPFOHO UAN MAR of in Kannada, then type in EPFOHO UAN KAN.

The facility is available in English, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Bengali.

To avail this facility, your UAN must be seeded with your bank account, Aadhaar and PAN. If they are not seeded, then ask your employer to seed them at the earliest.

# Check EPF Balance instantly by giving miss call

You can check EPF balance through missed call also. The details are as below.

# Employees registered on the UAN portal may get their details available with EPFO by giving a missed call at 011-22901406 from their registered mobile number.

# If the UAN of the employee is seeded with any one of the Bank A/c number, AADHAAR and PAN, he will get details of last contribution and EPF balance.

# To avail this facility, the mobile number must be activated with UAN at Unified Portal.

# Giving a missed call from the registered mobile number at 011-22901406 automatically gets disconnected after two rings.

# This service is available free of cost to the member. Moreover, these services can be availed from non-smart phones also.

# Check EPF Balance instantly by using EPFO Portal

You can check EPF Balance instantly by using the EPFO portal. Below are the steps to be followed.

# Visit the EPF India portal.

# Click on ‘For Employees’ under ‘Our Services’.

# Click on “Member Passbook” under “Services”. This will take you to the new page. Alternatively, you can go directly to the THIS PAGE also.

# Here you have to login by entering your UAN number and password and can view the passbook online.

Few points to remember while using this page.

  1. This facility is to view the Member Passbook for the members registered on the Unified Member Portal.
  2. Passbook will be available after 6 Hours of registration at Unified Member Portal.
  3. Changes in the credentials at Unified Member Portal will be effective at this Portal after 6 Hours.
  4. Passbook will have the entries which have been reconciled at the EPFO field offices.
  5. Passbook facility is not available for the Exempted Establishments Members / Settled Members / InOperative Members.

# Check EPF Balance instantly by using EPFO App on UMANG Platform

UMANG, is a Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance. It is developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and National e-Governance Division (NeGD). It is an evolving platform designed for citizens of India to offer them access to the pan India e-Gov services from the Central, State, Local Bodies, and Agencies of government on app, web, SMS, and IVR channels.

It will integrate almost 200 government services by 2019 across departments and states, allowing people to work seamlessly with the government. UMANG will soon be providing integration with various other services such as PayGov.

It will suggest you link Aadhaar. However, it is not mandatory link Aadhaar with Umang App. However, it will be beneficial for you to link Aadhaar with Umang App.

It is available in 13 languages such as English, Hindi, Assamese, Gujarati, Bengali, Kannada, Odia,Punjabi, Malyalam, Marathi, Tamil,Telegu,Urdu.

Currently, around 42 services are linked to Umang App like EPFO, PAN, NPS, CBSE, Pathshala, GST, HP Gas, Bharat Gas, Indane Gas, DigiLocker etc.

It is available as a website UMANG App and as a mobile App on Android, Windows and iOS platform. It requires 4.4 Android and up its size is 10 MB. Rating of 4.7 on Play Store.

Advantages of using Umang App

# All government services are available for citizens on a unified platform for easy access.

# You just need to install a single app rather than downloading multiple app for multiple services.

# It will ease your service related issues as you can anytime and anywhere avail these services through your mobile phones, desktops, and laptops without any need for visiting the department office and standing in queues.

To use this service, you have to take care few points and they are as below.

  • You have to link Aadhaar to UMANG App.
  • You must have an active UAN.
  • You must have linked Aadhaar to UAN.
  • Your UAN number must be KYC complied (Bank Account number, IFSC Code, PAN Card and contact details must be linked and verified by employer fully).

The process to check EPF Balance instantly using UMANG App is explained below.

Step 1-Once you register with Umang App, then the screen looks like below. Here, you have to select the option EPF.

Step 2-Once you click on EPFO link, then you will find the screen where they classified features into three categories. You have to click on “Employee Centric Services”.

Step 3-Under Employee Services, select the option “View Passbook”. You can just view the passbook and download option as of now is not available.

  1. I checked through UMANG- first two years entry not there in passbook. What to do? Refer to EPFO – should I opt for enhanced pension option? Or withdraw full amount ?
