HDFC Bank’s PayZapp-Next Gen mobile banking app in India

Few days back HDFC Bank launched PayZapp, an all-in-one mobile payment, and money transfer app through which you can make any type of payments in a single click. Let us see its features.

HDFC Bank Mobile App PayZapp

Using this application, you can shop on your mobile at partner apps, buy movie tickets, music and groceries, compare and book flight tickets and hotels, shop online and get great discounts at SmartBuy, send money to anyone in your contact list, pay bills and recharge your mobile, DTH and data card.

You no need to download separate apps for buying online like downloading of Flipkart, Makemytrip, Cleartrip, BookMyShow, Expedia, GoIbibo, Yatra and Big Basket. However, using this application, you do all the shopping and payment. Currently, HDFC tied up with only 15 merchants. However, the bank soon plans to tie-up with another 10,000 merchants within 45 days of time.

How to start using it?

The process involves three steps.

  1. Download app on mobile no. registered with the bank.
  2. Register and create your 4-12 digit security PIN.
  3. Link your Debit and Credit Cards.

A few precautions before using this app.

  • Download this app only on your OWN mobile phone.
  • Download and register this app for the mobile phone having the mobile number, which is registered with HDFC Bank.
  • Always log out once you complete the transaction.
  • In case you lost your mobile device, then call to PayZapp helpline number  1-800-102-9426. You can also call HDFC Phone Banking number for blocking PayZapp application.

This app is available only for HDFC Bank customers and for Android devices only. After three months, the service would open to other cardholders and see the launch on iOS and Windows devices too.

About security feature of this app

The bank claims that it is secure because “A) State-of-the-art encryption for inbuilt security B) No data is stored on the phone – even if your phone lands in the wrong hands, no harm is done C) You only need to ensure that your Secure PIN is not shared with others”.

Even though anyone can add your debit/credit card data by downloading this app on their mobile, but it fails as bank registered card number – mobile number combination check will fail. Card data will be secured, stored with the bank, but not stored on the mobile phone. This app will automatically log-off after 20 minutes from the time of last activity on PayZapp.

Which mobile handset you must have to use this app?

It currently works on all mobile phones having Android Version 3.0 and above. It will be launched soon for iOS. Download and register the App on the mobile device having the mobile number as is registered with HDFC Bank (for your credit cards and debit cards). You must have internet facility on your mobile phone to use this app.

In case you change your mobile handset, then you have to once again download the app and register with device verification code. Then you are allowed to use the app using the different mobile phone.

In case you are using dual SIM mobile phone, then make sure that bank registered and PayZapp registered mobile number is in the SIM 1 slot. This will enable you to experience one-click payments.

If you changed your mobile number, then you have to register the number first with HDFC. However, you cannot see the transactions done earlier using the old mobile number. Because with new number usage, it is purely a new account.

About removing or adding your Credit/Debit Card-

The USP of NetSafe is safety – you need not expose your entire credit card limits or your card details online, simply create another virtual card with smaller limit and short period validity.”Virtual International Card or NetSafe. Regards

  3. Hi Basu,

    Superb information.

U have given a very lucid view of the whole along with all the pros and cons of the same. Gr8 work.

I had one doubt – when that say that – ” No data is stored on the phone”.

What about the receipts that we receive for the payments done???

We need them to provide for the accounts. So without them, it becomes difficult to claim all the expenses.

    Thanks $ Regards,

    Neela

    1. Neela-What they are saying is, by default the details will not be stored. However, if you feel the security of your phone is at risk then I think better you forward those to your personal mail.

  4. Dear Basu,

Very detailed information, thank you. Perhaps I need some clarifications on below points.

Firstly, we cannot link our bank account, then how one can transfer money to someone, since it’s written that you can’t send money by debit/credit card or vice versa

The other point is one can send money without bank account, debit/credit number. It is just by using mobile number and email, would like to know how the receiver is going to collect the money if at all he receives the money through his mobile number and email.

    Regards,
    Kirthan

    1. Kirthan-You can’t link your savings account means you can’t pay through net banking. But you have to pay either using debit/credit card. Inter transfer of fund from Credit to Debit and vice versa not possible. Regarding money transfer, if the receiver not registered with PayZapp will receive SMS. This he has to enter by downloading the PayZapp app and enter this code. Also, HDFC Bank say “Presently, money received cannot be withdrawn in cash or transferred to bank a/c. It can be used through the Virtual card for one-click payments on Partner E-Commerce merchants / Re-charge and for regular 3DS transactions on all E-commerce sites in India.”
So it means that transferring fund is not worthy (As of now).
