How to complain against Insurance Company?

Insurance is the long term contract you enter with Insurance Company. But during that period you may face few service related problems from Insurance Companies. Those may be like-not received your policy, dispute regarding premium paid or payable, delay in claim settlement, claim rejection, or regarding few terms and conditions. In that case it is better to know how you need to approach and what are your rights. Let us discuss about it in detail.

Before proceed let us know the turnaround time provided from IRDA for each type of services.

So as per above table if your Insurance company not resolved your grievance then the next step is to contact Grievance Redressal Officer of your Insurance company of it’s branch or any other branch.                                                                                                       Below is the list of official mail ids of life insurance companies. When you give complaints then dont forget to take the acknowledgement of the same from Insurance Company. Insurance company need to act within 15 days about your complaint. If they not resolved or you are not satisfied then the next step is approach Grievance Redressal Cell of IRDA. You can reach through Toll Free No.155255 or [email protected] You can also utilise the facility of IRDA “Integrated Grievance Management System (IGMS)” too, which is the tool to track your complaints.

The next step if not resolved is, Insurance Ombudsman/Court/Consumer forum. Govt have created 12 ombudsman  in different locations like-Mumbai, Lucknow, Kolkata, Kochi, Hyderabad, Guwahati, Delhi, Chennai, Chandigarh, Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal and Ahmedabad.

But to approach Ombudsman their are certain conditions like maximum limit is 20 lakh, you need to approach within one year of rejection by your insurance company and if the complaint is already lodged with court or consumer forum then you are not eligible to lodge the complaints with Ombudsman.

Hope I made it as simple as possible to grasp the basic function of complaining. I mainly concentrated on Insurance Company and IRDA, thinking your problems may get resolved under these two steps 🙂

    HDFC LIFE Insurance customer care called of lapsed policy but i am notable to pay. But they continuously called me. But i am very much worried ever after i told not to call me. how can i make complaint about this.

  2. Recently (4 months before) we had an car accident, and we claimed to National Insurance, so for no reply from them.
    Is there any way to file a case in consumer court regarding the same?

    • Selvakarthi-Four months is a long delay. Better to take charge and complaint with the ombudsman.

  4. Sir India mein koi strict penalty pade tab yeh company theek Se kaam karein.sir aap ko yeh nhi malum meri family mein 5 lakh ka claim aya tha.we got our claim from consumer forum.sir agar apki jaan pehchaan na ho toh aap police fir bhi nhi karwa skate.very weak laws in india

    • Sneha-Yes, its fact of what you told. But they check your knowledge. If you are full of knowledge then they act swiftly otherwise they just ignore. Hence, the need of the hour is to educate yourself and bend them as per rule book.

  5. Basu Ji yeh gro koi help nhi krte hain .they don’t settle claim judiciously.even irda don’t take action they advise u to go to ombdusman.if u go to consumer forum they it will take around 4 to 5years to take your claim.health insurance or headache.India mein koi rule nhi hai.

    • Sneha-I understand the pain. But knocking the ombudsman is the best way to give shock treatment to insurer.

    With reference to the subject, I got a call from Mr Ajay – 9555976632 and offered me loan against policies. After that the executive collected documents from me. I took below policy in my name

    In addition they told me that the first year agent commission also credited to customer account.

    The total premium of the policies is apprx. 50000/- As per requirement I become victimized of such case in the offer of loan. Now they are cooking stories and told me that the loan has sanctioned from Adhitya Birla Finance and will be deposited in January end.

    I am totally depressed as I cannot manage the policies on such a huge premiums.

    Please advise what help can be from your esteemed organization.

    I need to cancel the policy and get my premium.

    After your kind advise I will proceed to further authorities as I have record all the correspondence with Mr. Ajay and his team.

    As the policy has made after communication with them it means your agency is also involved in these frauds.
