I work in an reputed IT company, I had a EPF account and everything was normal until I moved to onsite for more than a year when there was no contribution to my EPF account. When I came back (same employer) my Indian salary started again but I was issued a new EPF account by my company. So now I have two EPF accounts from the same company, my company advised me to transfer balance from old EPF account (from same employer) to new EPF account (from same employer). Now EPF authorities (govt officials) have blocked the transfer saying why the old account was having no contribution for more than a year? There is nothing pending with me but my employer is struggling to justify no contribution for more than a year. There are lot of employees which are facing this issue. Add to this, I have resigned and not sure if I will be able to transfer these two EPF account to new EPF account that will be issued by my new employer. Please note, I am still not allocated a UAN number, when I check the status using my current EPF number, it says its under process through ECR. Please can you help with this as to how and when this will get resolved.
Pankajk-These days it is a typical problem faced by many of MNC employees. In my view, your employer did wrong by creating the second EPF account. Instead, they might have contributed freshly to the same old account. Few MNCs do like letting employee to resign and rejoin to resolve the issue. I think that was not done with your employer.
Now you resigned from the job. So I don’t think EPF will hold one or both accounts from transfer. Once you start your new employment, you can easily transfer both the accounts with new employer. EPFO raised the issue as the employer is same in both the EPF accounts.
Thanks a lot sir for answering my query… One small query, I still do not have UAN allocated to me. When I check status online, it says it’s under process through ECR. When I chased my current employer, they are telling it is under process and once they have it we will share with you.
My question is, once I join new employer in few weeks, what happens to my UAN allotment? Will I have to wait for the current UAN to be allocated and then transfer my both PF accounts to new employer?
Thanks in advance again for helping so many of us with your expert advise!
Pankaj-Better to have UAN activated. Then I feel it is better and easy to apply for transfer.
